Fulfilling a dream formed since taking residence at Angel Ridge Ranch in 2011, Second Chance Humane Society is now expanding its community outreach services to include an exciting new animal-assisted therapy program.
Through a collaboration with the nonprofit organization Equine Empowerment, we are pleased to announce our latest outreach service, the equine-assisted therapeutic horsemanship program, conducted at our animal shelter arena in Ridgway.
Equine Empowerment is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH Intl) center that provides therapeutic activities with horses for people with special physical, cognitive, emotional and social needs. Equine Empowerment provides therapeutic riding, equine-facilitated psychotherapy and equine-assisted learning programs to a wide range of clients including veterans, at risk youth, families and people with disabilities. Equine Empowerment is the only PATH Intl program in our region.
With the completion of the Hyneman Community Building on the Second Chance property, clients participating with Equine Empowerment will also be provided opportunities to interact with our shelter dogs and cats.
The mission of Equine Empowerment is to provide experiential learning and therapy opportunities that empower and enrich lives. Our collaboration with Equine Empowerment perfectly aligns with all we do here at Second Chance Humane Society in our pursuit of – Saving Lives By Promoting the Human-Animal Bond.
