Spice up Your Life - its Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!
Best. Month. Ever. Move over Halloween it is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! Toss out the candy corn and bat wings and make room for a lovable huggable treat of a lifetime – a new pet! Can’t adopt right now? Keep reading to learn how to help homeless sugar free sweeties like me find loving happy homes as part of this delightful month!
If you are ready to open your heart and home to an animal in need, please consider adopting a pet today. Here at Second Chance you will find many adorable, adoptable animals, although I would most recommend adopting me, but more on that later. Not ready or able to adopt? Well you can still help to support Second Chance and save as many lives as possible this October, here are some suggestions:
Donate online (address below) to help cover the costs of the spay/neuter of pets like me or toward the special medical fund for shelter pets with special medical needs (also like me). Attend the Bow Wow Film Festival (select short films that celebrate the human-animal bond and the power of the pooch!) which Second Chance is hosting in Montrose this Sunday at 4:30 PM at the Turn of the Century Saloon.
You can also shop at or donate to one of the Second Chance Thrift Shops in Ridgway or Telluride and/or volunteer to walk or cuddle with shelter pets. Or try promoting Second Chance’s adoptable pets on your Facebook page.
And last but not least – join us in educating others. Pass on an understanding of the importance of animal welfare and pet adoption to the next generation. Talk to your kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, anyone who will listen, about animal shelters and why Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month, and pet adoption in general, is important.
An example of how to do this, for those with rescue pets, is to post updates of your success stories to our Facebook page – spread the word on how adopting a pet can forever change your life for the better. Help me and all my friends, now and in the future at Second Chance, to get our chance at the live that we deserve...
Now, if you want to really spice up your life this October, adopt me, Spice. I am a four to five year young female Hound mix who recently arrived here at Second Chance with my buddy Oreo. We were found running on the highway (we figured it was the best place to be rescued). I had been attacked by a decent sized animal and had a large bite mark on my neck. It was super scary and I was rather freaked out when I first arrived.
My wound has been treated and stitched and I am quickly settling in and being less frightened of everything and more my former affectionate self again. I get along great with other dogs and walk well on a leash although the trauma has left me easily spooked. I am happier in more open spaces but I believe that with a loving family that I can trust I will continue to become more comfortable and confident in different environments. Let me be the Spice in your life…
