Elizabeth Kirwin, Shelter Manager

Ellizabeth Kirwin Second Chance Humane SocietyLiving on the West Coast, Elizabeth earned a Marketing Business degree while working in various corporate marketing positions. While developing her marketing career in the finance industry, Elizabeth volunteered for both independent rescues and municipal shelters, fostered dogs and cats, and participated in animal welfare outreach programs, such as the effort and eventual successful ban on pet stores selling puppy mill pets in Southern CA.

In 2007, Elizabeth decided to leave corporate employment to work full time in Animal Welfare. As a means of funding a nonprofit rescue Elizabeth purchased and managed a retail boarding kennel in West Texas while building Sadie’s Rescue Inc. Sadie’s saved and re-homed an average of 400 pets per year, many directly from the local municipal shelter.

Sadie’s mission included working closely with the City Management and City Council to improve conditions and implement long term enrichment programs at the City Shelter, educate the community on responsible pet ownership, and to encourage the community to participate and collaborate with the City Shelter in Animal Welfare issues.

Elizabeth joined Second Chance in March of 2013 with the early priorities of developing a stable dedicated team of both staff and volunteers, ensuring a successful efficient transition into the new Dog Den, and developing and implementing effective enrichment programs for the Shelters pets.
