Saving Animals & Promoting the Human-Animal Bond

Kelly Goodin, Executive Director

Kelly Goodin Second Chance Humane Society Ridgway ColoradoThrough her work with Second Chance Humane Society Kelly Goodin combines her passion for animals with that of making a positive difference in the lives of others. Initially obtaining a Masters degree in Sport Psychology, Kelly’s work focused on supporting people in pursuing their true potential. She applied this in working with athletes, youth, professionals, and businesses. Wanting to make an impact within more underserved demographics Kelly then obtained a Masters in Social Work and directed social services as well as prevention programs within challenged communities. It was during this time that Kelly became involved in animal rescue.

Kelly moved to the Ridgway area in 2005 and first applied her skills in grant writing and program development for Second Chance before being hired as the organization’s first executive director. Of this change in focus to helping animals she states, “The communities that I worked in as a social worker were ones in which animal suffering was rampant and it secured my resolve to find a way to elevate the importance of animals in our lives and the responsibility we hold toward them. Through Second Chance I am privileged to do this with a successful team of committed, sincere, and passionate people.”

Kelly’s other interests include an array of outdoor activities with her pets and family. Her local community involvement has included the One to One Mentoring Program, the Ouray County Community Development Committee, and Ridgway Area Mountain Bike School.
