Veterinarian

Dr. Shari DuPauw

Dr. DePauw will be leading Second Chance Humane Society’s shelter medical program as well as the organizations Community Wellness Program (offering free wellness exams and low cost services from spay/neuter, vaccinations, dental cleanings, microchipping, FELV testing heartworm testing and prevention, de-worming, and flea and tick prevention). This program is open to low income pet owners throughout the tri-county region and includes mobile wellness clinics serving residents of Nucla and Naturita and the West End area.

Originating from upstate New York, Dr. DePauw attended Cornell University for her undergraduate and veterinary degree, which she completed in 2003. After performing an internship in Atlanta, she moved to NYC where she treated the pets of the rich and famous. She then volunteered at a spay/neuter clinic in India, where she developed a passion for shelter medicine and serving the under-served.

When she returned to the United States, she worked at a humane society in Washington D.C. before the mountains drew her to Colorado. She worked at a humane society and low cost clinic on the Front Range for 7 years before recently moving to the San Juans. She loves being able to provide care for those animals who otherwise may not get it, and during her free time, she enjoys exploring the mountains on foot, bicycle, skis, or with rope and harness.

Second Chance Humane Society is a registered 501(c)(3) organization in good standing with the IRS.
