That positive experience created a foundation that has lasted a lifetime. From rescuing a kitten, that showed up in the middle of the desert, on the one year anniversary of her Dad’s death, that subsequently lived to be seventeen years old; to her current best buddy, a rescue beagle that was about to be euthanized in a shelter in Alamosa, with a dislocated leg. Ashley is all about advocating for the “under dog”.
Her work to this end, at SecondChance, started in 2010, when she and her, then ten year old son, started volunteering at both the shelter in Ridgway, as well as, the Telluride Farmer’s Market adoption events. This led to Ashley being asked to join the Board of Directors in 2010, a position she continues to hold to this day.
Ashley’s involvement with Second Chance has included a three-year term as Vice President, followed by six years as Board President. During that time, she has been heavily involved in helping to facilitate the growth of the organization through capital campaign fundraising, organizing special events, coordinating Telluride Elementary School’s Pets Turning Pages Program and continuing to volunteer to help shelter animals find their forever homes at the Farmer’s Market in Telluride every summer.
Ashley’s other community involvements have included volunteering at The Southwest Wildlife Animal Rehabilitation Center, as well as, being a volunteer ski instructor at the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program since 2008. She feels blessed every day to be making a difference in the lives of others in a place as beautiful and special as Telluride!
