The Second Chance Humane Society is proud to be able to offer dog training classes and behavioral assistance to the community. We offer this service with the goal of enhancing the bond between owners and their pets.
Courses that are offered are Introductory Manners, Advanced Manners and Therapy Preparation, Puppy Socialization and Manners, Agility, and Group Walks and Hiking Together. We also offer one on one training sessions by appointment to cover more specific behavior issues or for dogs that struggle in the group setting.
These courses are designed to provide owners with the knowledge to understand the theory of how dogs learn and apply that knowledge through positive reinforcement training. Lessons include sit, down, wait, watch me, loose leash walking, come when called, and leave it among others. Owners will develop a deeper understanding of their pets and learn how to effectively communicate with them in order to provide a well rounded and safe lifestyle for all.
Introductory Manners courses take place once a week for six weeks here at the shelter. We ask for a $50-75 donation to cover resources and staff time. All participating dogs must be altered (spayed or neutered) and be current on Rabies and DHPV vaccines. We cannot accept aggressive dogs into class.
If you have any questions or would like to participate please contact our trainer Brian Martinez at the shelter, the number is 970-626-2273 and the email is firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also find more information and resources under the “Animal Resources Center” on our website adoptmountainpets.org.
