"Today, Second Chance is at another crossroads in its history in that it must either increase its capacity or curtail its services to meet the needs of a growing community."

The long term goals for Second Chance are for it to be a financially self-sustaining organization that continues to serve the animal welfare needs of its growing service area but through an emphasis upon prevention rather than intervention modalities. As the future impact of the Community Outreach Program reduces the demand for sheltering and other direct services for homeless pets, the focus of Second Chance can shift further toward serving as an educational and resource provider for a region where spay/neuter and humane treatment of companion animals is the norm.

Second Chance foresees a stronger and more stable financial base through increases in major donors, grant funding, and the establishment of endowments that will reduce the need for resources to be invested in fundraising but instead redirect that focus back toward education and prevention services.
