Gambling for Good

Gambling has always carried a rather sordid reputation throughout the years within various communities and cultures. But it has proven to be beneficial to the greater good when used properly and for purposeful reasons. Today I am going to promote a gambling opportunity that was developed for the purpose of supporting Second Chance Humane Society, where I currently call home.
So when we look at how gambling can be applied to make a positive difference a prime example is the Colorado Lottery. This “gambling operation” has resulted in over 2.3 billion dollars toward state and community parks, trails, open space, and education programs.
But what are the odds of winning these games? Colorado Powerball winning odds are 1 in 176 million. And while the Lotto’s odds improve to 1 in 5.3 million it is still quite the margin. But what if I were to tell you that you have a 1 in 500 chance of winning a week’s stay at a lovely Caribbean bungalow for two? And all lottery proceeds go toward Second Chance Humane Society’s animal welfare programs?
That is right, Second Chance is currently holding a raffle (with tickets at only $10 - or 3 for $25) which finds the winning ticket holder lounging on the beach or poolside in Nevis at Hurricane Cove Bungalows for seven days. If you want to have a better visual of this you can view photos of the location visit: http://adoptmountainpets.org/caribbean-getaway/item/caribbean-getaway-for-two.
The drawing for the raffle (which you do not have to be present at to win) will be at Second Chance’s premiere fundraising event, Wine & Whiskers, on March 10th. Wine & Whiskers, which takes place at the 4H Event Center and includes a silent and live auction and the return of the infamous Fashion Cabaret will be announcing the winning ticket at the completion of its live auction. And chances are it could be you!
Speaking of taking chances - did you know that pets that are not micro-chipped also have very low odds of safely being returned home when lost? At only 2% rate for cats and 15% rate for dogs – this is not something you want to gamble with – call Second Chance today about our very affordable micro-chipping opportunities.
My name is Odie and I am a shelter dog here at Second Chance. I am hoping that my luck will change in the very near future and a new forever family will bring me home with them. It won’t be much of a gamble that I will love and adore my new family and that you will risk losing any form of loneliness or neglect when you become my companion…
Second Chance raffle tickets are available at the Second Chance Thrift Shop, Buckskin Booksellers in Ouray, Telluride Veterinary Clinic and DaLee Salon in Montrose or call 626.2273 for details. Visit our shelter pets online: www.adoptmountainpets.org. Direct Pet Column questions to:
