Community Work Day at Angel Ridge Ranch

When Second Chance Humane Society purchased Angel Ridge Ranch six months ago as our new center of operations we had a vision of it being much more than a shelter but an animal resource center where a variety of community services and programs that forwarded the mission of the organization could take place.  We are still just as excited about this vision and appreciate the continued interest and excitement we’ve been receiving from our surrounding communities about this.  Below is our progress and how you can participate.

The Light Bulb Question

The Light Bulb Question

When adopting a dog many people place significant emphasis on the breed.  People are drawn to certain breeds for a great variety of reasons - either from past positive experiences, lifestyle, or because certain breeds have a resemblance to popular movie stars.  But many people don’t understand breed differences so I have concocted a simple riddle to assist in describing “typical” breed temperament.  The riddle is:

How many dogs does it take to change a light bulb?

Volunteering Doesn't Have to be Expensive

Volunteering Doesn't Have to be Expensive

Volunteers are critical to the operations of non-profit organizations throughout the country and this is certainly true for Second Chance Humane Society.   I love our volunteers who give so much of their time and, depending upon what their volunteer role is, their own resources.  Well a recent decision in the U.S. Tax Court holds favorable implications for volunteers nation-wide that do have out of pocket expense  and can thus be helpful to those who would like to volunteer but may not have the financial means to do so.

300 Pet Columns!

My name is Elvis and I have the pleasure of writing the 300th Second Chance Humane Society Pet Column!  Yes indeed - there have been 300 pets before me who have typed their paws rough to inform, inspire, amaze and entertain you over the past six years since the Column’s inception.  The first paws to pen the Pet Column did so on March 12th, 2006.  The author’s name was Salsa, a young Heeler with different colored eyes and big ears.

Dog Haiku

Dog Haiku

Dear Pet Column readers,

My name is Dax.  I am a poetic soul and for this week’s Pet Colum I decided to share a Haiku that I have always enjoyed.  It makes light of our (dogs) occasional unpleasantries and highlights are positive qualities – the ones that make the unpleasant ones easily bearable.  I added the end part – hope you like it.

You can find me – waiting for you at the Second Chance Animal Resource Center (the new and improved name for our shelter) at Angel Ridge Ranch.  I’ll be the one wagging his tail and reciting poetry…
